Our offer

As we prepare for an unpredictable winter, Hackney CVS is offering a series of 6 free, bite-sized, PRACTICAL workshops breaking down the skills needed to successfully secure funding, build resilience and help stabilise your project during the Covid period.

The community and voluntary sector response to Covid in Hackney has been inspirational with hundreds of initiatives being set up to meet local needs. Unprecedented levels of funding are being made available to support our communities throughout the Covid-19 pandemic and we want to offer support to access it.

Sessions include critical info on how and where to signpost to in this climate and a resilience session.

These workshop can be attended as a programme and as standalone sessions and are pitched at an introductory level – we aim to cover the essentials. All sessions are FREE.

Know How To Write A Good Project Plan
Have a great idea for a funded project but not sure how to turn it into a written proposal? Confused about the questions a funder is asking in their funding application? Having a clear project plan can help you make sense of it all. Learn how to create a simple, clear document that will help you develop, communicate and engage support for your project idea.

Know How To Create A Budget For Funding
New to writing funding applications? Recently under costed your work? Have you made sure to include all the different costs to your project and non-direct costs to your organisation. Attend our Beginner Budgeting and master the basics of creating a budget for funding applications.

Know How To Present The Evidence
You know your project is needed but how does your potential funder? This session will share tips and resources for how to put together the evidence for your project idea. It will also introduce you to HCVS’ Demographic Info section on our website – providing you with data at your fingertips.

How To Do A Risk Assessment
This webinar aims to support voluntary groups to produce an effective risk assessment and to guide you through the process. The webinar will cover: The legal requirements; Factors to consider – what work activities could potentially spread coronavirus; who could be affected and how; what controls are needed: how to ensure that controls are working and how to organise and record the risk assessment.

Know How To Add Up and Manage A Budget Using Excel
Recently costed your work? The numbers don’t add up? You can use excel to help you add up the numbers and make sure any change to the figures doesn’t mess up your overall budget. This webinar session is aiming to help you use excel formulas to sum up the numbers make sure you have a clear and presentable budget. You’ll be provided with an excel template at the end of the session which you can start using right away for any project.

Know How To Build Resilience And Prevent Burnout
This bite-sized workshop on the robust, engaging and practical “Alexander Technique” will give you a little taster of the basics to reduce pain and stress so that you can leave the workshop a little lighter and begin to create a life of greater wellbeing long into the future. This is for if you feel like your pain, stress, or anxiety are holding you back and you desire to live pain-free and more fully aligned and enlivened.

Know How To Find Relevant Support Services Online
Worried about the volume of service shut down due to Covid and Xmas? This session will walk you through some of the most useful signposting and support services available to the voluntary sector in Hackney including a detailed tour of the “Finding Support Services” Website, to enable you to continue connecting the communities you work with, to the support they need.

Getting to grips with Governance
Good governance is a necessity for organisational success. It is increasingly being demanded by funders, regulators, and partner organisations.
This workshop introduces you to the concepts of governance and the practicalities of creating the conditions, structures, and culture requirements to establish good governance.

One-to-one Advice and Support
Hackney CVS offers its members one-to-one appointments for help and advice with fundraising, governance, policies and procedures, safeguarding, DBS checks, monitoring and evaluation, marketing and setting up new community groups.

Not a member yet? Associate membership is free to all voluntary and community sector organisations operating in Hackney. There are a range of benefits including priority booking to events and reduced rates on room hire. Read more: http://hcvs.org.uk/associate-membership/

Wider CVS training offer

The four CVS’s of Hackney, Islington, Redbridge and Tower Hamlets have collaborated to strengthen the training offer to voluntary and community organisations across the East London boroughs of City and Hackney, Redbridge, Barking and Dagenham, Havering, Waltham Forest, Newham and Tower Hamlets.

The offer means that VCSE’s who are members of their local CVS can access free or members rates training.
