A town hall is more than just a building: it represents both local government and the community, and provides a public space where the two can meet. Now residents and visitors to the borough can take a 45 minute guided tour around the building to find out more about its history and architecture. An illuminating display in Hackney Town Hall’s newly refurbished vaults that concludes the tour sheds light on the building’s origins and proud history, with original architectural elements on display alongside civic memorabilia such as the original mayoral robes and a room that looks at local democracy and the function of the council today.
