Join us at our International Women's Day event

Hackney CVS is holding an International Women’s Day (IWD) event on Friday 7 March.  This vibrant event will include speakers from City and Hackney communities and organisations and we are inviting you to take part in the discussions and the fun. We welcome our male allies to this event to join in the activities and celebrate with us.

Exhibition

In addition to this event, we are holding an IWD exhibition in our conference room, from 1 March.

We would really appreciate it if you could help us make the exhibition even more amazing by loaning us any posters, photos, books, figurines, banners, flags or anything to help us create a celebration of women. 

Our front-of-house team will label any items that you contribute. They will be kept safe and secure and they will make sure that they are returned to you. Email Hackney CVS reception with any queries.

 

The theme of this year’s IWD is Accelerate Action. Individuals and organisations who attended last year’s event contributed their ideas on the change they want to see. These were distilled into a 5-point pledge.

The 5-point pledge:

  1. For women to be appreciated, spoken to and respected just the same as male counterparts.
  2. To empower the future generation of women to speak out.
  3. Support women in having a stronger voice by actively listening.
  4. To be open to women-centred system change, influenced by women.
  5. To speak out when you see injustice.

We would like organisations and community groups to sign up and commit to the pledge to be an Ally in the Workplace.

At this year’s event, we look forward to discussing how Hackney CVS can support you in your work towards the pledge, and Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion more broadly.

Register for the event 

The event will start at 11am with light refreshments. There will be speakers, poetry, an interactive session and African female drummers Red, Green and Black. The event will end with a hot Caribbean lunch at 2pm for our guests, with drumming and dancing. There will be vegan and vegetarian options.
