Hackney Giving is the local giving programme in Hackney and the City, distributing funding provided by businesses, residents and the statutory sector to grassroots charities. The programme ran between 2014 and 2017 and was relaunched in 2020.
Since then, we have focused on supporting communities through the pandemic and the cost of living crisis. Hackney Giving has distributed over £2.7 million to frontline organisations in Hackney and the City of London.
This has provided funding for numerous projects including the purchase of food and supplies, and mental health support. It also included communicating public health messages to communities who have barriers to accessing mainstream messaging about the pandemic, such as adults with sensory disabilities or learning disabilities, and people who don’t speak English as a first language.
At Hackney Giving, we make a point of channelling support to groups that would be beyond the reach of an individual donor – those community groups doing really great work, but which you might never have heard of.
Although the way that individuals, businesses and the public sector give are different, Hackney Giving can help all to support the community sector in Hackney and the City. We can channel gifts of money, time, skills and resources to voluntary and community sector groups.

Match My Project is an online platform where voluntary and community sector organisations can post requests for support and browse offers from businesses. Hackney Giving supports the matching process in Hackney and the City.
Once signed up to Match My Project, organisations can ask for help with the projects they need help with and review the current offers from businesses, such as services or donated items.
Our work with Hackney Council and the NHS is ongoing, building on the successful partnerships that were established during the pandemic. We are working to encourage more individuals to give through Hackney Giving and to engage a wider range of businesses.
