“By committing to sustainable practices, Hackney CVS will become a truly green organisation by 2028, with all processes and systems being 100% digital, except for where this may serve as a barrier to our members and partners.”
Hackney CVS Strategic Plan 2023-2028.
Reducing our environmental footprint
At Hackney CVS we care about the environment and we have taken the following actions to improve sustainability:
- Our hybrid working model reduces travel and associated carbon emissions.
- We encourage paperless working and our office has recycling points for glass, plastics and paper.
- We support the cycle to work scheme.
- When we need to purchase mobile phones, we buy refurbished handsets. These practices are in line with “avoid, reduce, reuse, recycle.”
- When we buy promotional merchandise, we ensure it is sustainably produced and uses recycled materials where possible.
- We offer a cycle to work scheme to our employees.
- We are exploring working with an organisation that links companies with resources to voluntary and community sector (VCS) groups that need them. As well as distributing new resources, this can also help prevent waste, as community groups can benefit from used items that would otherwise be disposed of.
- Our premises includes a courtyard. The LGBTQI+ led community gardening initiative Rainbow Grow has turned it into a beautiful and well-used garden. Rainbow Grow follow eco-friendly gardening practices and grow food in the garden for members to harvest and enjoy.
