Hackney Giving is the local giving programme in the borough of Hackney, distributing funding provided by businesses, residents and the statutory sector to grassroots charities. The programme ran between 2014 and 2017 and was relaunched in 2020, shortly before the coronavirus pandemic.
Since then, we have focused on supporting communities through the pandemic and the cost of living crisis. We have distributed over £2 million to frontline organisations in Hackney and the City of London. This has provided funding for numerous projects including the purchase of food and supplies, and mental health support. It also included communicating public health messages to communities who have barriers to accessing mainstream messaging about the pandemic, such as adults with sensory disabilities or learning disabilities, and people who don’t speak English as a first language.
Live crowdfunding
Our live crowdfunder at Capco with The Funding Network on 22 June 2017 raised over £9.5k for grassroots local charities. Watch the film below to see how it works.
