Hackney Carnival returned on Sunday 22 September with a family-focused parade and exciting entertainment including live music, a food market and children’s areas.
Carnival groups showcased the borough’s diverse communities and creative talents with a celebration of Hackney’s culture and heritage.
The carnival showcased the borough’s diversity and inclusivity, with a procession that included participants of all ages and backgrounds, including groups led by young people, elders, LGBTQIA+ groups and disabled people.
This year, Hackney CVS staff were out in force to cheer on the carnival and one of our staff, Rachel King, performed as part of the procession.
Rachel said: “I’ve always been to Hackney Carnival, but in the past I was just an observer. This year Hackney Chinese Community Services, who I work with as part of my work with lunch clubs, invited me to be one of their performers.
Being part of the carnival was amazing. It was great to be on the streets of Hackney and see people come out of their homes smiling at the procession. It felt so joyful to have a connection with people on their doorsteps.”
