Hackney Giving

Hackney Giving Live is back!

We are pleased to announce that a Hackney Giving Live crowdfunder will take place at Hackney Town Hall on the evening of Wednesday 20 February 2019.

How does Hackney Giving Live work?

A Hackney Giving Live event begins with informal networking where guests and our three chosen community groups/charities get to know each other over light refreshments.

Once everyone is sitting comfortably, presenters from the three groups make a six-minute pitch about the project they are seeking funding for and take questions from the audience. Pitches and Q&As are strictly timed, giving everyone the same opportunity to make their case.

After the pitches, a Master of Ceremony from The Funding Network (our partner organization) leads the live crowdfunding. People then give to the projects that appeal to them, whether it’s one or all three.

Live crowdfunding makes giving easy and a Hackney Giving Live event typically raises between £8k to £12k in one evening. Examples of projects funded through Hackney Giving Live include:

  • St Mary’s Secret Garden: a therapeutic gardening project for people living with HIV. Amount raised: £4,888;
  • Kimnara Music: supporting young people with autism through music. Amount raised: £3,717;
  • Volunteer Centre Hackney: the ‘Step Up’ project to help people with mental health problems through volunteering. Amount raised: £3,303.

A short film on our Hackney Giving Live event at Capco shows live crowdfunding in action:

  • Are you one of the following: a voluntary group, a community group, a registered charity or a Community Interest Company?
