DESCRIPTION:                        \n\n\n\n\nThis is an internationally recognised and certificated Youth Mental First Aid training delivered by certified Mental Health First Aid England instructors.\n\nDo you work with Young people in Hackney? \nDo you want to learn how to promote a young person’s mental and emotional wellbeing? \nThen attend this course which will provide you with the information\, tools\, and techniques you need to support a young person who might be experiencing mental and emotional distress. \nThe course is split into the following four sections:  \n\nWhat is mental health?\nDepression and anxiety\nSuicide and psychosis\nSelf-harm and eating disorders\n\nWithin each section\, there is a clear focus on the issues faced by young people\, including bullying/cyber-bullying and substance misuse. The course also teaches the importance of promoting well-being and protective factors. \nLearning outcomes\nEach section will teach you how to: \n\nSpot the early signs of a mental health issue in young people\nFeel confident helping a young person experiencing mental ill health\nProvide help on a first aid basis\nHelp protect a young person who might be at risk of harm\nHelp prevent a mental health issue from getting worse\nGuide a young person towards the right support\nReduce the stigma of mental health issues\n\nThe sessions will be a mix of presentations\, discussions\, and group work activities. Through the programme they are equipped with the skills and knowledge needed to design and implement social action projects to tackle social issues in their community. \nShoreditch Trust is delivering the Active Citizens programme in partnership with the British Council. We are recruiting participants for the 2017/18 course which will take place from 20th November – 24th November 2017.

DESCRIPTION:Sweet Design Studio is proud to collaborate with Shoreditch Library again this year to host another event for Black History Month. ‘Black SuperSheroes’ will be the first of its kind to celebrate black women as superheroes.\n\nWith Halle Berry being the last black (and only) actress to play a leading role as a superhero character in a film – Catwoman\, 2004 ‘Black SuperSheroes’ explores the lack and missed opportunities of black woman playing leading roles as superheroes through contemporary\, colourful and positive illustrations and raises the question why?\nCollaborating with graphic Designer Lauren-Marie Haywood\, ‘Black SuperSheroes’ will not only illustrate and re-master some of the world’s most loved female superhero characters as modern everyday woman of colour but will also be raising the question of whether the filming industry will ever use another black actress to play a superhero character or if our next female superhero character will ever be a plus size or wear a hijab?\n\nThis free exhibition will be a celebration and recognition of black woman regardless of her body type who is too often ignored in media as well as a celebration of female empowerment. This year’s Black History Month theme at the Shoreditch Library will honour the courageous work of Civil Rights Activist Maya Angelou and ‘Black SuperSheroes’ will be echoing her famous ‘Phenomenal Women’ poem throughout.

SUMMARY:Healthier City and Hackney Fund 2018/19 Launch Event
DESCRIPTION:Hackney Council’s Public Health team and the City and Hackney Clinicial Commissioning Group (CCG) have joined forces to offer an exciting grants fund for projects to run from May 2018. \nThis combines the existing Healthier Hackney Fund and the Innovation Fund\, to create a larger programme that will support groups to deliver meaningful change for residents in Hackney and the City of London. \nThe scheme allows the Public Health team and the CCG to work with organisations from across the Voluntary\, Community and Social Enterprise sectors to create innovative solutions to long standing\, large scale health issues\, and to test ideas for new ways to deal with old problems. \nThis launch event will introduce the grants programme to interested groups\, explain the application process and the priority health issues covered by the grants\, allowing time for ideas sharing between organisations. This event is also an opportunity for those interested in applying to meet the funders and discuss any initial ideas for projects. The event will run on a drop in basis\, and interested parties can talk informally to representatives from the Public Health team\, the CCG\, service leads for the priority health issues\, the Community Partnerships team (who manage the grantfunding process)\, and groups who have been funded in previous rounds.
