SUMMARY:Children and Families Forum: Obesity Reflection Session:
DESCRIPTION:Hackney CVS is working with Hackney Council to create a 5 year plan which has a focus on improving healthy eating and the reduction of childhood obesity. \nAs part of the consultation\, VCS organisations that directly work with low income families are invited to shed light on preventative approaches\, principles and  key policy’s that need to change. For example – should there be a limit on licences awarded to shops that sell fast food (Chicken Shops)?  Why can’t we have more access to friendly spaces to grow quality food for low income households? \nCome and be part of the discussion of the most important elements that should be included in the plan? \n  \nClick here to register: https://crm.hcvs.org.uk/civicrm/event/info?id=226&reset=1

SUMMARY:Meet the funders
DESCRIPTION:We are lucky to be joined by City and Hackney Healthier Fund\, East End Community Foundation and Lloyds Foundation for an interactive session on their funding priorities and support available for voluntary and community groups.\n\nHealthier Hackney Fund – In October 2017\, the Council and City and Hackney Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) launched the healthier City and Hackney grant fund for 2018/19. \nThis new fund brought together two former grant funds\, the CCG innovation fund and Hackney Council’s healthier Hackney fund\, to provide a scheme to make grants to help us achieve our joint health and wellbeing aims for communities in the City of London and Hackney. \nEast End Community Foundation connects business and individuals with the grassroots organisations that are making a difference to lives here in our neighbourhood: London’s East End. Last year we awarded grants of £1million! \nLloyds Foundation make grants every year to hundreds of small and local charities\, investing in their work helping people overcome complex social issues across England and Wales. Lloyds Foundation provide long-term funding for charities with a proven track record of helping people achieve positive change through deep\, person centred and holistic support. We understand that sometimes the most life-changing charities may not always look perfect on paper\, and we’re not afraid to take risks where we see great potential.

SUMMARY:Black History Month - #ForgottenFigures Art Exhibition Black SuperSheroes
DESCRIPTION:#ForgottenFigures is Black SuperSheroes second major exhibition for Black History Month celebrating historical Black women in Britain from 1300 – Present. This art exhibition is the first of its kind that will focus solely on Black women who are often overlooked in the national curriculum in schools. Our purpose is to make Black History studies more decorated\, contemporary and engaging for KS2/3 in education. \nCelebrated women will feature the Navy’s first black female sailor ‘William Brown’ to current sheroes such as boxer Nicola Adams (though she isn’t forgotten) where they will be transformed into supershero characters because they were game changers and broke down barriers. \nThough this exhibition is primarily focused for schools\, families\, and individuals are very welcome to come along.

SUMMARY:Will they take away my child?
DESCRIPTION:Do you need help but fear you will lose your children?\nDo you know how and where to get the right support? \nSome parents fear that if social workers\, teachers\, GP\, and officials find out that they are struggling with issues that cause stress at home then the children will be taken away from them.\nWith this in mind parents and family support organisations are invited to meet a range of community organisations and public sector providers that offer early help.\nWe aim to increase knowledge of support services available and build trust to dispel the myth that “children will always be taken away”.\nCome and share your experience at an event that brings together Young Hackney and The VCS. \nRegister here. \nDate: Friday\, 21 September 2018\nTime: 10:30 – 12:30pm\nContact lola@hcvs.org.uk for more information
