SUMMARY:Environmental & Land Defenders Evening Briefing
DESCRIPTION:We invite you to attend the next event in our briefing series\, this time focusing on our Environmental and Land Defenders campaign. \nAt this event\, we will launch our latest report detailing the killings in 2016 of those defending their land\, rivers and forests against destructive industries. These ‘land and environmental defenders’ are being murdered in record numbers\, often by a collusion of private and state interests seeking to silence dissent over large-scale projects like mining\, hydro\, agribusiness and logging. \nThe report analyses seven of the worst-hit countries as well as the role of international investors\, like development banks\, whose engagement is essential in solving the underlying causes of the issue. We also suggest ways to tackle the main cause behind the violence: the imposition of extractive projects on communities without their free\, prior and informed consent. \nhttps://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/environmental-land-defenders-evening-briefing-tickets-35911960641?aff=es2

SUMMARY:Helping refugees into sustainable employment
DESCRIPTION:Launch event for the RISE employment service for refugees \nRefugees and asylum seekers face multiple barriers to employment. These include language\, poor wellbeing due to traumatic experiences\, and a lack of recognition of their qualifications by UK employers. This means that unemployment in refugee communities is above 50%\, compared to 6% for the UK national average. Higher refugee employment could bring considerable benefits to London’s economy\, employers and communities. \nRISE – Renaisi’s new employment service for refugees in London\, aims to do something about this. To celebrate its launch\, we are bringing together local authorities\, third sector providers and employers from across the capital\, to build new networks that will strengthen employment support for London’s refugees. \nhttps://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/helping-refugees-into-sustainable-employment-tickets-35139314636?aff=es2
