Windrush

Calling Hackney's Windrush generation

tell us your story...

We are producing a commemorative book and audio podcasts to record the experiences of Hackney’s Windrush generation.

If you live in Hackney and came to Britain from the Caribbean before 1970, we’d love to hear your story: where you came from, your new life here, what it felt like… Your story and photo could appear in our book and online.

We are also looking for people to interview others so if you would like to volunteer as an interviewer, please let us know.

We will be producing 3,000 copies of the booklet which will be launched at a  Windrush tea party at Hackney Town Hall in October. Afterwards it will be available in Hackney libraries and archived at Hackney Museum – so this is your chance to be part of local history.

Story gathering workshops are taking place during July and August at The Adiaha Antigha Centre, Hackney CVS, 24 – 30 Dalston Lane, E8 3AZ.
