The User Led Training Group with Councillors Carole Williams, Peter Snell and Mikael Kiviniemi of Better UK whose workforce will receive training through the project.
Hackney CVS’s User Led Training Project is supporting disabled Hackney residents (and/or their family carers) to design their own training courses which they deliver to Health and Social Care professionals and Hackney Council staff.
The NHS and social care side of the project has been supported through workforce development funding from the City & Hackney Community Education Provider Network (CEPN) and HENCEL (Health Education North Central and East London). The project is an active member of the CEPN network.
In 2016 the project won the Patient’s Association Award for ‘Innovative Ways of Involvement’ for the training courses disabled residents in Hackney have designed and delivered to NHS staff across hospital and primary care services in Hackney. The range of staff NHS staff trained so far has included nurses, staff in general practice, Care Certificate Trainees and Apprentices among others.
Katherine Murphy, Chief Executive of the Patients Association, said: “We are delighted that the Hackney CVS User Led Training Project won the Patients Association award for 'Innovative ways of involvement', they really deserved it’’
In November 2016 the group was awarded funding from the Mercers’ Company to extend User Led Training to Hackney Council’s workforce. The project launched with a ‘taster session’ for Hackney Councillors to experience the type of training council staff will receive.
‘It was thought –provoking and gave me space and time to reflect on how service delivery can be done more sensitively’Cllr. Carole Williams, Hackney Cabinet member for Employment, Skills and Human Resources.
