Hackney CVS is committed to improving the outcomes of young black men in Hackney. Key to this work is the Moving On Up Project, funded by Trust for London, which supports young black men into employment.
Our partners Skyway, the Crib and Hackney Marsh Partnership provide estate-based bespoke employment support for 16 to 24 year olds as well as employability workshops. This support is crucial in engaging young men and working with them to overcome their challenges in finding suitable employment.
Our partners’ work is supported by a group of Moving On Up peer leaders, young black men age 16 to 24, who are keen to make a difference in their own community. These Inspirational Leaders support, develop and deliver aspirational workshops in schools and youth clubs aimed at inspiring and connecting young people to opportunities.
They also act as the Youth Advisory Board for Hackney’s Improving Outcomes for Young Black Men Initiative, providing feedback and ideas to senior policy makers on how to move forward as well as representing the views of young people on specific themes, such as mental health, employment and education.
The Inspirational Leaders also take their energy and enthusiasm to grow opportunities for young black men locally, nurturing a Moving On Up business network comprised of youth leaders and employers that is committed to finding innovative ways to facilitate business engagement, improve social capital, labour market knowledge and ultimately employment potential of young black men in Hackney.
We are always looking for young men to come on board as Inspirational Leaders! If you are a young man of African or Caribbean descent, aged between 16 and 24 years old, and not working or attending college, then you should come on down and get Moving On Up!
