Hackney CVS celebrates 20 years of working for a fairer Hackney

  • Adiaha Antigha awards for community sector champions
  • Gary Francis awards for young people who achieve against the odds

Hackney CVS celebrated their 20-year anniversary in style at The Ace Hotel, Shoreditch on Thursday 26 October. The umbrella body for Hackney’s voluntary and community sector was formally established in 1997, making 2017 our twentieth year of operation.

The evening was opened by Hackney CVS Chair Charles Middleton who commented: ‘As a board member and chair of Hackney CVS I am always amazed by the fantastic contribution that so many local community groups and charities make to the borough. At Hackney CVS we are all about making Hackney a fairer place and these organisations, those we partner with, and those we help or support, are at the heart of this agenda.’

Also addressing the event was Mayor of Hackney Philip Glanville who thanked Hackney CVS for their contribution to the borough.

The event provided an opportunity for us to present our annual community awards. The awards commemorate the lives and work of former employees – the late Adiaha Antigha, Hackney CVS Chief Executive and the late Gary Francis, Hackney CVS Youth Programmes Manager. The awards were presented by Jake Ferguson, Chief Executive, and Chair, Charles Middleton.
